Occasionally Windows Vista will fail to get a DHCP address, this
results in Windows Vista presenting the user with a Local Only
connection.
To resolve most connectivity issues you can go into
the Network and Sharing Center, select view status then diagnose. The
operating system will then search to see if it can determine the
problem and present you with a valid option. In the case of the Local
Only connection it will attempt to obtain a new IP address by
presenting you with the option.
Alternatively, from a command prompt (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) type:
IPCONFIG /release
IPCONFIG /renew
This will obtain a new IP address for the adapter.
